Abstract

With increasing development and adaptation of technology to meet the needs of digitised urban areas, our understanding of the interface between our physical and digital environment must be updated from time to time. Notwithstanding the outstanding research that has gone into individual IOT devices, mapping out of technological exposure on the internet and the deep technical dives we take as cyber security researchers, I believe a “total urban littoral” review is often lacking in the awareness of operators & product developers to help understand the operating picture and inform. This talk will explore multiple wireless technologies in urban centres alongside physical security elements. I will focus on methods to capture and analyse multiple wireless technology protocols and hardware interfaces with low cost hardware, an analysis of threats and risks specific to technologies as well as broad security considerations from a military, economic and political standpoint as seen through the lens of the 3 block war. By the end of this talk, the audience will have an alternate point of consideration for understanding and planning technological and “big picture” cybersecurity considerations as they apply to the modern urban littoral.
