Abstract
The 2020 Strategic Update calls upon Defence to be agile, proactive and effective in adapting to strategic and technological trends and changes. This presentation will demonstrate how the Defence Artificial Intelligence Centre (DAIC) will realise the vision of the Strategic Update to achieve a cultural shift towards a genuine partnership between Defence, academia and industry.
Established in 2019, DAIC is the endorsed lead for the coordination of AI capability across Defence. Our goal is to usher trusted and transformative AI systems into the Defence environment to support the warfighter. Beyond an outline of the Defence Enterprise AI Strategy, we invite you to explore the features of the enabling environment and approaches DAIC has built and adapted in collaboration with CIOG and DST to accelerate the development and integration of AI systems into capability. To conclude, DAIC will share some recent projects to highlight trends and identify potential areas for collaboration with Industry.

Biography
Group Captain Jerome Reid is currently posted into dual posts as Director of the Defence Artificial Intelligence Centre & Director of the Defence Technology Acceleration ColLab within the Joint Capabilities Group.
Jerome is foremost an experienced warfighter and arms professional. He has seen operational combat and peace keeping in the Middle East, Africa, and Indo-Pacific regions, and has been afforded the privilege and honour of commanding and leading warfighters in combat. Jerome has also been deployed on several humanitarian disaster relief and capability building missions.
Jerome’s passion, however, is in mindful disruption of the status quo, for the specific purpose of transformation to build a better society. In this capacity he has been called upon to transform the whole of Defence Industrial Relations & remuneration paradigm, Total Workforce System for a future ready ADF, Air Force’s transformation into the world’s first 5th Generation Air Force, and Defence’s transformation into an Augmented Intelligence future. Currently Jerome is the Director of the Defence AI Centre.
