Biography

Dr. Peter Camana is Director of Advanced Systems for Government Systems at ViaSat Inc. Dr. Camana is the senior technical leader for Government Systems and is responsible for implementing the overall strategy of ViaSat to apply open, integrated architecture, advanced hardware and software technologies, and lean manufacturing methods to enhance performance and reduce costs for communication systems. His work spans a range of military communications and tactical data link systems for applications from weapons to advanced platforms. At ViaSat, Dr. Camana’s other contributions have included addressing methods to increase the throughput of the Link-16 Communications Network and to accommodate the increasing information exchange protocols demanded by Network Centric Warfare. Altogether, he has been a leader in the development of integrated avionics technologies and communications systems for manned and unmanned aircraft for more than 30 years. Prior to joining ViaSat, he led the pioneering efforts that resulted in modular, integrated, software defined radio suites for advanced aircraft including the F22 Raptor and F-35 Lightening Joint Strike Fighter. Prior to these positions, he led the development of Source Coding approaches for Video Communications with the Air Force Avionics Laboratory. His previous positions include a number of business development and communication system engineering roles during a 20-year career at TRW (now Northrop Grumman). Dr. Camana earned his undergraduate BSEE at Lehigh University, then completed his MSEE and PhD degrees at The Ohio State University.
