ABSTRACT
The great unknown in the threat landscape and grey zone operations vulnerabilities that Australia faces in our Defence supply chain. There is a large focus on cyber systems protection, however, the greatest risk is still the human. Whether the lens is foreign influence, corporate espionage, cyber attacks on critical infrastructure or Defence industry supply disruption, the area of concern is how we validate and monitor people and companies with access.
This talk will explore how open-source intelligence is used by foreign adversaries to profile and develop attack vectors on the Australian supply chain by targeting the online exposure of key individuals within organisations. Additionally, we will look at the risks of not conducting thorough vetting and due diligence on existing supply chains to validate the people and companies involved. Finally, we look at the competing priorities and challenges that corporations face when assessing insider threats versus discrimination of individuals in the modern human-resources context.
