ABSTRACT
The Land Force C4 capability is a key enabler for the conduct of Land Warfare. It is required to support Land operations across a spectrum of operations from humanitarian and disaster relief operations to high end war-fighting, often in challenging environmental conditions or austere environments. The future fight needs digital systems that enable the joint land force to understand, decide and act faster than their adversaries by connecting commanders, soldiers, platforms, weapons and sensors, securely and reliably, regardless of terrain, environment or threat.
Cost and integration constraints coupled with overseas supply chain vulnerabilities have seen a renewed focus on understanding the opportunities through asserting sovereign control on C4 systems. Transforming ADF capabilities through collaboration driven by sovereign integration, simplicity and adaptation are being demonstrated to inform capability and acquisition managers.
The purpose of this update is to share lessons and insights from Penten’s experience in sovereign capability development and technology demonstration. This includes a focus on the impacts of size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C), interoperability, congested spectrum and security on the digital platform. Recent investment in sovereign secure manufacturing enables possibilities for assured supply chains, technology transfer and export opportunities. Observations on architectures and standards to leverage virtualisation and multiple independent levels of security will provide insights for industry partners and Defence sponsors.
