ABSTRACT
This Tutorial focuses on developments in the virtual world sector; specifically drawing on international Defence Force examples and best practices in the training and immersive learning sphere.
The Tutorial will present video examples of training simulation activations, drawn from overseas Forces. Attendees will also be provided with a QR code that will take them to an Augmented Reality example of immersive Defence Force training (from the US Military) on their own mobile phone devices.
Tutorial Structure:
- A brief overview of the current trends in Defence Force training via Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality and remote learning. What is new?
- A summary of current real-time platforms for content creation and delivery from the broader training sector. How best to deploy real-world data and environments for meaningful training outcomes? Defence Force specific examples to be offered.
- Content is King! Best practice content, UI (user interface) and UX (user experience) ideas: how adding real, interactive digital people (doubles) to virtual worlds is the gold-standard for spatial training. Examples to be offered.
- Budgeting - how do we maximise return on investment across multiple training platforms when crafting immersive training modules?
- Conclusions; recommendations and questions.
BIOGRAPHY
Paul is a recognised and respected thought-leader in the virtual world sector.
In 2018, he co-founded the Imagine Room Group; an immersive media company.
The business specialises in the production of digital humans for virtual worlds and training simulations; holographic and volumetric content that is often deployed in VR-sims, AR, Mixed Reality, on-site projections, games & digital economies.
Prior to this, Paul's 20-year career focused on media production and post production, delivering creative projects in the feature film, broadcast TV and enterprise communications markets.
Paul built Imagine Room's first Volumetric Studio in Adelaide in May 2021, and has been commissioned to open a second stage in Melbourne; due to open its' door on the 1st September 2021.
He has a sector-defining technical and creative understanding of delivering next-generation training outcomes.
As a result of International partnerships with Microsoft, Scatter, 8i and others, Paul is uniquely placed to present best-in-class examples of how volumetric, 3D, real-time and spatial computing platforms are changing the way the Defence sector educates and informs its' stakeholders.
Hailing from the UK, Paul emigrated to Australia in 2012. He has managed people and projects in Europe, the USA, Australia, India and China, and currently lives in Sydney.
