ABSTRACT
There’s a sharpened Government policy regulatory and policy focus on cyber security and supply chain hygiene. Perhaps the most far reaching of the regulatory initiatives underway is the SOCI/SONS legislative reforms which, among other things, nominates Defence Industry as one of Australia’s 11 critical infrastructure Sectors. With that comes a new cyber security compliance regime, fines, and last-resort Government intervention powers. There are also more impactful cyber security obligations if an asset or operator is nominated as a ‘System of National Significance’. This session will discuss how this legislation might impact on the cyber security of Defence Industry and its supply chains, including sovereign capabilities, by drawing on the SOCI/SONS legislation itself and the Sector-specific rules and regulations that have already been workshopped with Home Affairs.
