ABSTRACT
Unstructured data is free form content like audio and video files, photos, office documents, social media and sensor data that is stored as a file or object, or comes in the form of a data stream. Around 80% of the world’s data is unstructured data and between 2019-2023, it was estimated that unstructured data would experience a 3x growth rate. This is particularly relevant to the Department of Defence as it modernises the warfighting environment with digital battlefield management, video and audio feeds, geospatial, sensors and telemetry data. Defence will not only need to securely transport the data over a network and store the data on dedicated appliances; Defence needs real-time processing of unstructured data at the tactical edge and across geographically separated sites to gain insights. Interoperability with trusted partners is also imperative to gain and maintain advantage. Dell Technologies is working closely with Defence to development and implement solutions which achieve these objectives, through Interoperability Initiatives which deliver Data Centric Security and builds of Foundational Designs and Common Network Architectures such as the Federal Mission Network (FMN). These are enabled and underpinned by technologies built into Dell’s Unstructured Data Solutions such as Meta Data Labels, highly efficient data replication and a strong data consistency model. These initiatives deliver a more agile data sharing and security capability to military programs and greatly reduces the amount of deployed infrastructure required to support traditional networks built around the perimeter security model.
