Gavin Rawlins is the Acting First Assistant Secretary of Joint Systems within the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group. Prior to this appointment, Gavin was responsible for the Intelligence Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare Branch of Joint Systems Division. Gavin has extensive experience within the Australian National Security Environment. This includes a range of operational and administrative roles in support of the Australian Intelligence Community, Australian Law Enforcement and Special Operations Command. Gavin is a graduate of the Royal Military College (Duntroon), the Australian Technical Staff Officers Course, Australian Command and Staff College, and the Australian Defence Force School of Languages (Indonesian). Gavin has deployed to East Timor as a United Nations Military Advisor, to Iraq as the Staff Officer for the Australian National Commander and to Afghanistan as the Special Operations J5 (Plans Officer) for the first Special Operations Task Group. Gavin holds a Bachelor of Business (Computing) from the Queensland University of Technology and a Masters of Management from the University of New South Wales. In his spare time, Gavin enjoys rugby, cross country skiing and mountain biking.
Mr Peter Alexander

Peter Alexander joined the Department of Defence in December 2021 as the First Assistant Secretary ICT Delivery Division and is responsible for the delivery of new and enhanced business solutions into the Defence Single Information Environment through program, project and service management. Prior to this appointment, Peter acted as the Chief Executive Officer at the Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) from June to September 2021. Peter became the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer at the DTA in January 2021 and prior to that was the Australian Government Chief Digital Officer from June 2017. In his position as Deputy CEO/COO at the DTA he was responsible for Whole of Government digital delivery including the Australian Government’s Digital Identity program, myGov and government technology initiatives including cyber security uplift. Peter was also responsible for Whole of Government strategic ICT sourcing and procurement, re-use, architecture and corporate functions at the DTA. Before that he was the Chief Information Officer at the Treasury and a senior executive at the Department of Finance. Peter has extensive experience across Australian Government leading and delivering policy, strategy, change programs, government collaboration, financial and corporate management and security. He holds a Master of Business Informatics (IT), a Graduate Diploma in Information Systems, a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and is a Fellow of Certified Practising Accountants Australia.
