ABSTRACT
The recent acquisition of DTC by Codan Communications means that Australia now has a sovereign supplier of Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) Mesh IP Radios for Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) applications. This product brief will introduce the Codan | DTC range of SOL8, NETNode and Sentry MIMO Mesh IP Radios and discuss the application of this next generation MANET Mesh technology to dismounted soldier communications. It will discuss the mesh routing, waveforms and the unique channel access mechanism used by Codan | DTC radios. We will look at the evolution and advantages of MANET technology over other communications architectures and the advantages of using software defined radio (SDR) architectures. Focus will be given to dismounted soldier radios and the size, weight and power advantages of Codan | DTC’s most recently developed solution.
BIOGRAPHY
Leith Mudge is a Systems Engineer at Codan | DTC with over 30 years’ experience working as an engineer and scientist in the defence sector. He has a Master of Science degree by research from the University of South Australia where he focused on developing a technique of single station location (SSL) of remote HF radio transmitters by modelling ionospheric radio propagation. He has extensive experience on major Australian defence programs including the JORN, AWD, LHD and Future Frigate programs. Through this he has developed a good capacity to match user needs with technological solutions. Leith has also been involved in the establishment of 2 technology start-up companies.
With Codan | DTC, Leith has focused on developing systems and solutions for customers predominantly for military tactical communication in the land domain. This has involved the design of customer solutions using Codan | DTC and third-party equipment to maximise likelihood of mission success. Leith is Codan |DTC’s technical lead on the Australian C4 EDGE program for the Australian Army.
