ABSTRACT
Most C2ISR analysts and operators are overwhelmed with the amount of data they receive and they do not have time to make sense of all of it. This is not meant to imply that they aren’t proficient in their tradecraft. No human can process all the data. The solution requires machines to help humans. Human wetware processing is still required for final decision making. Ultra Intelligence and Communications’ solution, Rapid Application of Information (RAIN), is broader than just the AI/ML “make sense” component. We provide data ingestion and a communications broker, as well as make sense of the data. We move the data through cross domain solutions for both TS/SCI to S/Collateral and Unclassified to S/Collateral. Data from all security classification domains contributes to faster truth and assists humans with Combat ID decisions. We also maintain data pedigree and provenance. In addition to normalizing the data, RAIN components perform data aggregation and send it to fusion and inference engines. The fusion engine performs level-one fusion (alignment, association, correlation) and sends the data to a collection of ML, analytics, and statistical/deterministic components—the inference engine. The inference engine performs additional level-one fusion (correlator-tracker and classification), as well as level-two (situation assessment), and some level-three (threat assessment) fusion. Alerts are sent to operators who interact via a web interface and identify items of interest and suggest courses of action. Users select the level of automation desired and can release amplified tracks to Link-16.
BIOGRAPHY
Ed Campbell is the Product Manager for Ultra’s RAIN and Athena products. With four plus decades of experience, Ed is a subject matter expert in ISR and C2. As the product manger for RAIN and Athena, Ed is responsible for guiding the success of these products and for leading the cross-functional team developing them. He sets the strategy, roadmap, and feature definition for the product lines and provides the deep product expertise needed to make strategic product decisions. Ed served 20 years in the US Air Force, then functioned for 13 years as a principal engineer and Manager, Systems Engineering for what is now L3Harris. Ed also served as an A&AS (SETA) contractor for Big Safari for almost seven years while dual hatted as the VP of Aeronautical Systems Engineering for Calvert Systems Engineering. Ed then functioned as the Director of Innovation at Viasat for two years before joining Ultra because he wanted to be part of the team that developed and delivered this much needed warfighter capability—as he called it, a noble cause. Ed has an A.A.S. in Electronics Engineering Technology, B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science, M.A. in Bible Exposition, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Bible Exposition.
