ABSTRACT
Militaries are looking to operationalise cloud capabilities at the tactical edge to deliver an advantage for the war fighter. Adoption of cloud infrastructure at the tactical edge will enable commanders to leverage the cloud ecosystem to provide flexible and adaptable solutions to achieve decision superiority. In this talk we will examine how cloud can enable the tactical edge in a denied, degraded, intermittent and low bandwidth environments. Using a real-world example of a tactical cloud edge design, we will demonstrate that it can be deployed and meshed together with minimal resource requirements, utilising whatever IP based bearer is available within a given environment. To demonstrate this, we have utilised world leading ruggedised secure tactical cloud edge solutions paired with high end Network Security appliances. After demonstrating the ability to provide a scalable cloud edge solution we will conduct a deep dive on how the built in Secure Software Defined Wide Area Networking capabilities can be utilised to provide survivable and agile network communications in a contested cyber and electromagnetic spectrum. We will also provide insight into how to automate the deployment of network security components to meet Australian Information Security Manual controls, whilst enabling military commanders to have a measure of effectiveness of these controls at deployed nodes to help achieve speed of manoeuvre in the cyber domain.
