C4ISR and Joint All Domain capabilities are critical to the modern military. Underpinning them are distributed computer systems able to perform timely data collection, processing, sharing, analytics and response.
Microservices architectures continue to grow in popularity as a means to satisfy the competing demands of resilience, integration, scalability and agility required for these systems. Kubernetes is emerging as the infrastructure of choice to run them across private, hybrid and public clouds.
We’ll explore a short history of the evolution of microservices and Kubernetes and discuss unique and unusual principles that could help or hinder successful adoption. We'll consider the differences in attack surface compared to traditional hardware and virtualised infrastructure and look at the resulting cybersecurity opportunities and challenges.
This session is intended to provide practical insights into the advantages of Kubernetes infrastructure in a C4ISR context and how to securely design for it, informed by the US DoD DevSecOps Reference Design.
