AVM Robert Denney, AM

Air Vice-Marshal Robert Denney was born and grew up in Wollongong, New South Wales. He joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1991 as an Officer Cadet at the Australian Defence Force Academy, graduating in 1993. He completed pilot training, postings to operational F-111 squadrons, attended Empire Test Pilot School and postings as an F-111 test pilot and Squadron Executive Officer at Aircraft Research and Development Unit. In 2008 Air ViceMarshal Denney fulfilled a staff appointment in the Operational Requirements section of the F-35 project. Air Vice-Marshal Denney has had postings within Air Combat Group including Command of No 6 Squadron (Super Hornets); and Officer Commanding Number 82 Wing (Super Hornets and Growler) at RAAF Base Amberley. He deployed to the Middle East as part of Operation OKRA in 2014-15, as the Commander of the Air Task Unit in the Combined Air Operations Centre for which he was awarded a Commendation for Distinguished Service. Air Vice-Marshal Denney deployed on Operation OKRA again in 2017-18 as the Commander of Air Task Group 630. His star rank postings include Director General - Air Command Operations at Joint Operations Command, Director General – Air Combat Capability in Air Force Headquarters, and Head of Air Force Capability. In his current appointment as Head of Force Integration, Air Vice-MarshalDenney is responsible for leading, designing and assuring the delivery of interoperable capabilities for the Joint Force. Air Vice-Marshal Denney holds a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering. He is a graduate of Empire Test Pilot School; Canadian Joint Command and Staff Program; and the United Kingdom’s Higher Command and Staff Course. In 2018, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for exceptional service in air combat capability development and sustainment. He is an enthusiastic cyclist, enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wife, Lisa and their three children.

COL Pinghan Chua


Colonel Chua grew up in Singapore and immigrated to Australia aged 11. He graduated from the Australian Defence Force Academy in 1998, from the Royal Military College Duntroon in 1999, and was allocated to the Australian Intelligence Corps.
Colonel Chua has held regimental appointments as Reconnaissance Troop Leader of the 1st Armoured Regiment, Adjutant 1st Intelligence Battalion and S2 2nd Commando Regiment. At the formation level, he was the acting S2 in HQ 1st Brigade in 2004.
At the tactical level, Colonel Chua deployed on a variety of domestic and overseas operations in joint, combined and inter-agency settings. In 2002, he was 2IC of an embarked Transit Security Element on Op RELEX II. In 2006, Colonel Chua deployed on Op CATALYST as S2 of the Al Muthanna Task Group in southern Iraq, which then transitioned to Overwatch Battlegroup (West). In 2007, he deployed on Op ASTUTE as S2 of the Special Operations Task Group against Alfredo Reinado’s group. Later that year, he was the S2 for contingency counter-terrorism elements for Sydney APEC 2007. In 2008, Colonel Chua deployed on Op SLIPPER as S2 of Special Operations Task Group VII. In 2012, he deployed on Op SLIPPER again as OC Field Exploitation Team IV, leading interrogation operations.
At the operational level, Colonel Chua spent five years in the J2X Cell at HQJOC, three of which as the Staff Officer Grade 1 - Human Intelligence. He exercised technical control on behalf of the Chief of Joint Operations over deployed human intelligence, exploitation and counter-intelligence elements.
At the strategic level, Colonel Chua was assigned to the Current Military Commitments Directorate in Military Strategic Commitments Division from 2017 to 2018. He was a Senior Intelligence Analyst on exchange with the US Defense Intelligence Agency’s Afghanistan-Pakistan Task Force from 2009-2010, when he led a strategic analysis team that informed senior US leaders during the troop ‘surge’ period.
Colonel Chua commanded the Defence Force School of Languages from 2019 to 2020. During his schooling years, he studied Mandarin, French and Japanese. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours in Politics) and a Masters of Arts (Management and Strategic Studies), and completed the Australian Command and Staff Course (Joint) in 2011.
Colonel Chua is married to Aimee, a speech and language pathologist, and they have three school-aged children. He is active in his local church, and serves on the board of directors of Emmaus Christian School - Canberra. His other diversions include Crossfit, alpine skiing and an eclectic reading selection.

AVM Wendy Blyth, AM

Air Vice-Marshal (AVM) Wendy Blyth has a proven reputation for delivering complex capital acquisitions, sustaining major capability programmes, for successful organisational transformations, and leadership. As Director General Air Capability Enablers, she was Capability Sponsor for the Air Mobility fleet, pilot and mission aircrew training systems, Air Traffic Management, Airbases, Air Force Security, Cyber Warfare and Networks, the unique Woomera range capability, and Jericho - Air Force’s innovation capability. AVM Blyth was uniquely suited to raising the strategic profile and needs of each of these capabilities in Air Force discussions. As Officer Commanding of the Surveillance and Response Systems Program Office (SRSPO), AVM Blyth established sustainment arrangements for the P-8 Poseidon whilst assuring all sustainment for the P-3 Orion, Heron Uncrewed Aerial System, and Australian Defence Force Aerospace Life Support Equipment. Her efforts ensured high levels of operational capability were sustained on the P-3 Orion and the P-8 Poseidon as they transferred roles. AVM Blyth established and maintained complex contractual and industry relationships, and nurtured relationships with the United States Navy. As the Project Manager for the P-8 Poseidon acquisition, AVM Blyth achieved Government approval of the P-8 Poseidon fleet. She initiated key relationships with the United States Navy to develop the procurement arrangements necessary to support systems delivery. AVM Blyth has proven ability to Command, both at SRSPO, and also at the C130J Logistics Management Unit (C130JLMU), where she was responsible for all sustainment support of C130J aircraft both at home and deployed. AVM Blyth’s efforts resulted in the C130JLMU and C130J sustainment contract becoming some of the highest performing contributors to Air Mobility. She was able to recover Air Force’s confidence in C130J sustainment support. AVM Blyth has extensive experience in management of technical risk, logistics, supply chains, contracts, finance and engineering, and design. She was the Senior Engineering Officer at Number 11 Squadron. In 2020 AVM Blyth became a Member of the Order of Australia for her exceptional service to the Australian Defence Force in C-130J Super Hercules sustainment reform; and in P-8A Poseidon capability development and system sustainment. AVM Blyth is a graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy. She has a Bachelor of Engineering, and three Master degrees. She is a graduate of the Australian Command and Staff College, and of the Royal College of Defence Studies in London. She is a Fellow with Engineers Australia and a Certified Practising Project Director with the Australian Institute of Project Management. AVM Blyth received the inaugural 2019 Australian Defence Magazine’s Women in Defence award for Project Management. AVM Blyth became Director General Force Options and Plans in November 2021, and in January 2023, was promoted to Air Vice-Marshal as Head of Air Force Capability. AVM Blyth is married, has two wonderful daughters, and is a fan of the Brisbane Broncos.
