Decision superiority has long been accepted as a pre-requisite of military success. And good decisions are data driven.
Unsurprisingly then, defence industry has long since focused its efforts on developing technologies that 'hoover' data from the battlespace. With the result that while military commanders are rarely famished for data; they are instead saturated with it.
If our commanders and their teams are to regain the initiative in the midst of this data deluge, we must provide them with the means to better sift this data ‘haystack’, find the data they care about and derive the information they need. Put another way, we need to close the data loop with a technology that does the heavy lifting in a way that facilitates the decision superiority sought.
This technology update explores the opportunities, limitations, and challenges with AI-enabled decision support to the commander.
