MAJGEN Ana Duncan, AM CSC
Head of Cyber Warfare

Major General Duncan was appointed as the inaugural Head of Cyber Warfare in January 2023. Major General Duncan joined the Army in 1996. As a Signals officer her regimental experience was forged within the 1st, 3rd and 17th Brigades, and in the 1st Division. She commanded the 1st Signal Regiment, which included command of Force Communication Unit X in the Middle East. She has also commanded troops in Timor Leste and in the Solomon Islands. She has held senior staff appointments in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Office of the Chief of Army, Strategic Policy Division, Headquarters 1st Division/DeployableJoint Force Headquarters, Career Management – Army and Director Future Plans and Strategy for the military coalition to defeat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). In this role, she was also the Senior National Representative for all Australian troops in Iraq. Most recently, she was the Commandant of the Royal Military College – Australia. A graduate of the Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies, Australian Institute of Company Directors, Australian Command and Staff College, and Royal Military College – Duntroon, Major General Duncan also holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts in Strategy and Management, and a Master of Science in Telecommunications. She has been awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross for leadership in officer career management; a Commendation for Distinguished Service for command and leadership in the Middle East; and was made an Officer in the United States Legion of Merit for her senior leadership in the Middle East. Major General Duncan is married to Gavin and they have a daughter, Madison, and a son, Darcy. She is an avid cook, gardener, reader and trail runner.

Major General Walk was born on 23rd December 1970 in Bundaberg, Queensland. After completing his secondary education at Iona College in Brisbane, he entered the Australian Defence Force Academy in 1989 and graduated from the Royal Military College in 1992. He has served in a variety of regimental appointments, including Officer Commanding Joint Movement Control Office – Townsville and Officer Commanding Transport Company, 1st Combat Service Support Battalion. He commanded the 7th Combat Service Support Battalion. Major General Walk has held a range of staff appointments. These have included G4 Headquarters Forces Command, Military Assistant to the Forces Commander and positions within Headquarters 3rd Brigade and Army Headquarters. Whilst serving within Army Headquarters, he held appointments as the SO1 Logistic Operations and the SO1 Sustainment. These appointments involved extensive exposure to the conduct of Rapid Acquisition of Land Materiel in support of operations, and close interaction with the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group and Joint Logistics Command. During his tenure within Army Headquarters, he received a Chief of Army Commendation for his performance in these appointments. Major General Walk was also appointed as the Director General Estate Service Delivery. In this role he was the Contract Authority for the Base Services Contracts, providing a range of essential services that enable Defence capability. Major General Walk’s most recent appointment was Director General Strategic Logistics, which also served as the Deputy Commander of Joint Logistics. During his appointment as Director General Strategic Logistics he assumed the responsibilities of acting Commander Joint Logistics for the majority of 2021, before being promoted and appointed as the substantive Commander of Joint Logistics Command in 2022. As part of his studies at the Defence Academy, Major General Walk graduated from the University of New South Wales and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in military history. He has completed a Graduate Diploma in Transport and Distribution Management through Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He is a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College where he received the Eisenhower Award for military scholarship. He is also a graduate of the United States School of Advanced Military Studies where he completed a Master of Military Arts and Science Degree. Most recently, Major General Walk has completed a Masters of Business Administration through Deakin University. Major General Walk deployed to Bosnia Herzegovina on Operation Osier in March 1999, where he served as the Staff Officer Grade 3, G4 Operations with Headquarters MultiNational Division - South West. In September 1999 he deployed to East Timor as part of Headquarters 3rd Brigade’s contribution to INTERFET. In 2010 Major General Walk deployed on Operation Slipper as the Commanding Officer of Force Support Unit – Three. His most recent deployment was as the Deputy Director of Essential Function 5 (Sustainment) within the Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan. This command was responsible for the development and professionalization of the Afghan National Security Forces as part of the NATO Mission – Operational Resolute Support. Major General Walk and his wife Karen have two sons. His leisure interests include spending time with his family, soccer, reading and following a variety of sports.
