In our current, heightened threat environment and changes to Australia’s Defence posture, the Defence Strategic Review highlighted that Australia must have a fully integrated and more capable ADF operating across five domains which work seamlessly together on joint operations to deliver enhanced and joined-up combat power.
The Government is moving to rectify significant and systemic issues in the delivery of crucial Defence capabilities. The Minister for Defence now requires not only improvements in the systemic issues around capability delivery of existing projects, but also radical improvement to capability delivery in an era of ‘impactful projection’ – military power applied at a substantial distance from Australia that has a meaningful strategic impact.
Speed to capability is now critical. Lifting our capacity to rapidly translate disruptive new technologies into ADF capability, in close partnership with Australian industry is paramount. This presentation will update MilCIS attendees who are interested in government and military communications and information systems on practical research being done to identify some of the opportunities and barriers to more effectively accelerating the delivery of critical Defence capabilities.
