Details

Quantum technologies are advancing at a rapid pace, and it is important for Defence to keep up with developments to maintain Australia’s strategic advantage. Quantum communications and quantum networking are often talked about, but the terms can mean very different things to different people. Examples include implementing quantum resistant cryptography, using quantum computers on the network, or using quantum key distribution. However, many of these terms are often misused, interspersed with jargon and unfortunately overhyped in many cases. In this talk we will move past jargon and hype in this subject to help military communications and information systems practitioners to understand what these terms mean to them. By providing a realistic view of what the technologies can achieve and their real level of maturity, this can help to ensure Defence is best placed to take advantage of emerging technology while mitigating the risks.
