Details

Recent battlefield confrontations have shown us the asymmetric advantage afforded by connected autonomous systems. As a result, advanced systems are being pushed further into the battlefield, closely teamed with human operators to deliver physical effects. Higher bandwidth, greater compute and high levels of network access typically accompany these systems and once coupled by increased proximal access by the enemy, present a unique attack surface that could be leveraged by an adversary. The question is, how does a fighting force leverage this new technology while ensuring it remains secure? In this presentation we look to present a novel concept of zero trust network access and AI supervisory security to secure these autonomous systems at scale. To do this we present an overview of the concept of digital twins to model an autonomous system. This model allows us to predict the behaviour of an autonomous system and how it should respond to its environment and determine if a system maybe compromised. We conclude this presentation by demonstrating a system that allows us to leverage the digital twin to show how we can practically implement a zero trust network access model to continuously authenticate autonomous systems to a network and monitor their secure operation.
