Details
The modern security operations centre (SOC) needs to manage high volumes of disparate data and find meaning in chaos - and then help enable a quick and effective response to mitigate threats and minimise harm. In an industry swimming in buzzwords, it is possible to create a SOC that can integrate a wide range of data sources, including SaaS, cloud, APIs, DevOps driven systems, and networks and legacy IT systems, and create security-driven outcomes at scale and pace. The recipe to success involves finding the right balance between leveraging vendor stacks but being vendor independent; accepting risk but not flying blind; and enabling analysts without overwhelming them. And some days it can even be fun! SOC managers operate in the grey space every day between success and failure - but it can be done without growing (too many) grey hairs. In Telstra, we manage complexity at scale every day and would like to share some lessons from the trenches - how to create the right combination of people, processes, and technology to be successful.
