Generative AI, including large language models (LLMs), is rapidly transforming how information is created, processed, and understood. This tutorial is designed to equip military personnel and leaders with essential knowledge to understand the potential and implications of generative AI for Defence operations and training. The session will cover core concepts, capabilities, and real-world applications of LLMs and multimodal AI tools, focusing on use cases such as operational document generation, cyber training simulation, open-source intelligence (OSINT), and cyber operations.
Participants will gain hands-on experience with AI-driven tools that generate text, video, and audio content, and explore how these technologies can enhance readiness, speed, and decision-making. The tutorial will also address the risks of AI misuse, operational security concerns, and the challenges of hosting, securing, and updating AI capabilities in sovereign environments. No prior experience with AI is required. Participants should bring a laptop or tablet with a modern web browser.
