As geopolitical tensions rise and adversaries in the Indo-Pacific region grow more agile and complex, Australia and its allies must establish a shared, multi-domain operating picture to preserve decision advantage. Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers a powerful means to rapidly aggregate, analyze, and disseminate intelligence across tactical, operational, and strategic levels—spanning classification boundaries and multinational partnerships such as Five Eyes.
Achieving this vision, however, requires overcoming challenges in data aggregation, model security, and data provenance. High-speed cross-domain technologies can provide the foundational infrastructure for secure, interoperable AI development and operations across coalition networks:
• Data Aggregation: New variants of assured transfer systems enable rapid movement of raw and finished intelligence from diverse sensors and sources. These systems create clean, functionally identical copies during transfer, protecting against data tampering, injection, or poisoning attacks on AI models.
• Model Security: Modern cross-domain access tools permit development and inference activities across security enclaves without exposing the model to bidirectional data paths. This enables multinational AI collaboration while preserving isolation, integrity, and auditability of the core model.
• Data Provenance: Consistent trusted labeling of source data, preserved across domain boundaries, enables secure tracking of inputs and the accurate marking of AI-generated outputs. When paired with Zero Trust access controls, this ensures that users only receive information they are authorized to see—enabling precise, coalition-wide intelligence fusion and dissemination.
These emerging capabilities offer a viable path to enabling secure, real-time, coalition AI in support of operations across the Indo-Pacific theater.
