Presentation Outline
This session will examine the ADF’s approach to C4 design and interoperability, exploring the challenges and opportunities associated with integrating joint and Service-specific capabilities. Representatives from across Defence will discuss the importance of interoperability by design, common architectures and standards, data integration and the need to ensure new capabilities can operate effectively across the ADF and with coalition partners. The session will also consider the evolving C4 environment and the role industry can play in supporting Defence’s interoperability objectives.

Biography
Colonel Phillip Ellsmore is the Director Land C4ISREW within Army Headquarters, responsible for the development, integration and modernisation of the land force's Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare capabilities. Since joining the Australian Army in 2004, he has served in a variety of command and staff appointments across Army, Special Operations Command and Joint Capabilities Group. His experience spans capability development, cyber operations, communications systems and major capability acquisition programs.
Colonel Ellsmore has deployed on Operation SLIPPER and has led the delivery of significant digital and network modernisation initiatives that enhance the Australian Army's ability to operate in increasingly contested and data-rich environments. In his current role, he focuses on accelerating the adoption of emerging technologies, strengthening interoperability with allies and partners, and delivering the integrated digital capabilities needed for future land operations.

CAPT Kate Pisani leads the Navy’s efforts in assured command and control, driving integration and resilience across maritime C4 capabilities. As Director, she plays a key role in shaping joint interoperability and supporting mission assurance through innovative design and governance.

Biography
COL Schurmann is the Director C4 Design in VCDF Group, where he is responsible for design of the joint C4 architecture that enables integrated by design technical interoperability for the Integrated Focused Force. COL Schurmann has extensive experience in command and staff roles, and a strong background in joint and coalition interoperability.
