Capability Integration- A Framework for ANZAC Land Force Interoperability Interoperability 2:30pm - 2:45pm The Australian Army, New Zealand Defence Force and regional partners are increasingly operating as a coalition force rather than independent national forces. While significant investment has been made in common platforms, communications systems and tactical networks, the engineering approaches used to integrate these capabilities remain largely nation-specific. As Australia's LAND 4111 continuous capability insertion program matures and New Zealand embarks on its own modernisation activities, an opportunity exists to shift from independent platform upgrades towards a collaborative systems integration model. This approach would enable common integration architectures, reusable engineering artefacts, and coordinated technology insertion across the Bushmaster fleet, and future protected mobility platforms. This presentation proposes an "ANZAC Platform Integration Framework" that extends beyond equipment commonality to encompass shared systems engineering, interoperability standards and modular capability insertion. The framework considers how Australia and New Zealand could jointly develop integration baselines capable of supporting coalition operations while also providing a scalable model for trusted Pacific partners, and other regional security forces. The presentation explores how common platform integration can reduce technical risk, accelerate capability introduction, improve sustainment efficiency and strengthen sovereign industrial collaboration. It argues that future coalition advantage will not be achieved simply through acquiring compatible equipment, but through establishing shared integration frameworks that enable rapid capability evolution across multiple nations. Drawing upon practical experience in Australian and New Zealand military vehicle integration programs, the presentation identifies Luminact's technical integration considerations that could underpin future coalition capability development in the Indo-Pacific.
Beyond Connectivity: Rethinking Tactical Communications for the Modern Distributed Battlefield 2:50pm - 3:05pm Modern military operations are increasingly defined by dispersion, contested electromagnetic environments, and the growing expectation that every platform and every soldier remains connected at all times. Yet many tactical communication architectures continue to rely on assumptions that no longer hold true: permissive environments, fixed infrastructure, and communications systems designed for strategic rather than tactical mobility. This presentation explores why resilient beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) communications have become a fundamental operational requirement rather than a niche capability. Drawing on real-world operational lessons and recent developments in tactical communications, it examines the communication challenges faced by small units operating in dense terrain, urban environments, remote regions, and disaster-response scenarios where conventional networks are unavailable or degraded. Rather than focusing on bandwidth, the session argues that mission success often depends on maintaining low-data-rate, highly resilient communications capable of delivering critical voice, position reporting, messaging, and command-and-control information under the most demanding conditions. It discusses how advances in compact satellite communications, low-SWaP architectures, and resilient network design are enabling tactical forces to extend operational reach while minimizing logistical burden and electromagnetic signature. Attendees will gain practical insights into emerging approaches for delivering persistent tactical connectivity across dismounted forces, vehicles, aerial assets, and command elements, and will explore how modern communication architectures can improve survivability, situational awareness, and decision-making in contested environments. The session is intended for military communications professionals, capability planners, defense technologists, and operational leaders seeking to better understand the future evolution of resilient tactical communications.
RapidM RC12 and RM12 – Enabling HF Beyond Line-of-Sight Communication System and International Interoperability 3:10pm - 3:25pm Dependence on satellites or fixed infrastructure presents various operational vulnerabilities. Radio communication offers a unique solution that is self-owned, self-controlled and less vulnerable to jamming and destruction. High-frequency (HF) backbone networks provide a critical beyond line-of-sight (BLOS) capability for strategic infrastructure, navies and coast guards, enabling long-distance communication over thousands of kilometers. The RC12 ARQ Server and IP Controller integrates an embedded STANAG 5066 ARQ protocol stack, facilitating user applications such as military message handling systems, email, chat and IP-based applications over strategic and maritime HF beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) radio links. In addition, the RC12 features an embedded MARLIN STANAG 4691 network controller, enabling IP applications to operate efficiently over V/UHF extended line-of-sight (ELOS) radio links. The RC12 also provides a STANAG 4591 MELPe voice coder for digital voice interoperability. The RM12 Wideband SDM & ALE is a high-performance wideband data modem for beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) HF communications in channels from 3 to 48 kHz. Ideal for vessels and shore stations, the RM12 supports MIL-STD-188-110D and STANAG 5069 waveforms. It features 4G ALE (WALE) and supports 2G/3G ALE for seamless network integration. Built for longevity, the RC12 and RM12 offers a 15-year lifecycle with 20 years of spares availability. It’s a robust solution for systems integrators.

Janus focuses on the design and development of security functions within Rapid Mobile’s embedded modem range, contributing to products that comply with key international military standards, including MIL-STD-188-110D, MIL-STD-188-141D Appendix G (4G ALE), STANAG 5066 ARQ, and STANAG 4691.
