A national conversation on security, preparedness and resilience

On behalf of the ANU National Security College (NSC), I am pleased to announce our next conference, Securing our Future: a ready and resilient Australia, to be held on 24-25 March 2026 in Canberra. Tickets are now available for purchase.

The conference will launch findings from our Community Consultations initiative, aimed at understanding Australian perceptions on security, risk and resilience, spanning a wide spectrum of international, strategic and domestic issues.

Even before the Bondi terrorist atrocity, our preliminary findings showed that there is growing anxiety in the Australian community about a range of security threats. We’ve also found that Australians place a premium on the idea of peaceful and safe communities as a unifying force for our policy settings.

With this conference, we aim to broaden that conversation into a truly national endeavour, with speakers from all tiers of government, the national security community, industry, civil society, academia and media.

As an added benefit, early registrants will be offered a chance to express their interest for a complimentary flagship training program by our Executive and Professional Development team to be delivered on Monday 23 March 2026.

We encourage you to join in this important discussion to help nurture social licence for policy in critical national security areas in pursuit of a ready and resilient Australia.

The Conference will use the Community Consultations as a foundation to connect community insight with national decision-making and help sharpen policy in key national security areas from defence and technology and economic security to community cohesion, counter-terrorism and counter-disinformation.

To ensure a whole-of-nation conversation, our speakers and participants will include members from all tiers of Government, parliament, the national security community, industry, civil society, academia, and media – including the voices from our national consultations.

Attendees will have opportunities to engage in dynamic debates, interactive workshops and energising panel discussions.

Connect with peers, experts and leaders in a thought-provoking environment on the campus of Australia’s only national university.

The full program will be released soon.

A ready and resilient Australia

NSC will be launching its final Community Consultations report at the conference.

Informed by research incorporating over 12,000 survey respondents, 400 interviews, 100 written submissions and focus group discussions, the Community Consultations initiative aims to better understand Australian attitudes towards national security. In considering Australian attitudes, we are also seeking views on the security challenges and opportunities for Australia now and in the future.

Ultimately the report, and this conference, seek to enable a whole-of-nation approach to national security and foster public debate on national security priorities. Conference speakers and participants will translate the findings of the report into ‘national opportunities’ to address issues of security risk, preparedness and resilience.
